Andrew Foster Memorial Mission School for the Deaf, Education Mission
Sheila L Hall Price and Joyce Kumi are the dedicated mission team for the AFMMSD, part of the Education Mission in Ghana. Our focus is on supporting and uplifting the deaf community through educational initiatives in both Accra and Kpandai. Together, we are committed to continuing the legacy of providing quality education and resources to deaf children.
Our Mission
Our mission is to continue the legacy of Andrew Foster by providing quality education, spiritual growth, and opportunities for Deaf children in Ghana. We aim to foster a nurturing environment where Deaf students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Our Vision
To build a brighter future for Deaf students by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in a hearing world while embracing their Deaf identity.
Our History
The Andrew Foster Memorial Mission School for the Deaf is named after Dr. Andrew Foster, the first Deaf African-American man to graduate from Gallaudet University. He dedicated his life to establishing Deaf schools across Africa, spreading Deaf education and awareness.
Founded in 1957-1987 in Kpandai North Region, Ghana, access to education for Deaf children in the north region. Clothing and Food program.
Our Programs
Educational Curriculum
The school offers a full curriculum in Ghanaian & American Sign Language (GSL/ASL), English, math, science, and vocational training.
Vocational Training
In addition to formal education, the school provides vocational programs in areas such as tailoring, carpentry, and computer skills, preparing students for the workforce.
Spiritual Development
Faith and spiritual growth are key components of our mission. Students participate in Bible study, worship, and other activities that foster a strong spiritual foundation.
Our Services
Donate
Contributions are vital to sustaining the school’s operations, expanding facilities, and improving the quality of education. Your donations help us provide learning materials, improve infrastructure, and offer scholarships to students in need.
Volunteer
Join our annual mission trips to Ghana and make a direct impact on the lives of Deaf students. Volunteers can help with teaching, construction, and community outreach.
Partnerships
We welcome partnerships with organizations, universities, and individuals who share our commitment to Deaf education and empowerment.
Facilities
The school is currently housed in a rented space, which is inadequate for our 74 students. We are actively seeking funds to build a new facility, including classrooms, offices, and dormitories, that will better serve the students and the community.
Empowering Lives Through Education and Support
The Andrew Foster Memorial Mission School for the Deaf, Education Mission is a nonprofit organization that provides basic education, nutrition, and community development programs to individuals who have been deprived of the most fundamental living conditions due to the harsh circumstances of their lives.
We encourage volunteers to join us in supporting our mission and contributing to our cause. The information you provide through this form will be kept confidential and will help us identify the most fulfilling and suitable volunteer opportunities for you.
